Week Five Round Up - 6th June 2026
This weekend marked the last week of the first batch Win-Lose cricket as all three teams continued their quests for 25 points.
We’ve been blessed with great weather for the first four rounds but all changed for the first week of June. The forecast across the county was dreadful and before midday the 3rds game had already falllen victim to the weather.
The 2nds travelled back to Chesterton and Wendlebury looking to avenge their result from last Sunday. Batting first, wickets dented the momentum. Sam Childerley batted well for 24. Sajith also pushed the scoreboard on with a well made 30*. With the scoreboard on 91-5 from 21 overs, the heavens opened and that was the end of that. 7 points a side.
At Brackley, the 1st team hosted Cropredy looking to continue their unbeaten run. At 9:30am, things did not look great with both the outfield and square unplayable. The covers did their job for the wicket and when the clouds broke, the sun and wind worked their magic so that the game started on time.
Brackley batted first but after only 1 ball, the covers were back on for a short period. The innings started steadily, with Will and Eric navigating tricky conditions, a new ball and tight bowling well. However, the loss of 3 wickets for 2 runs put Brackley on the back foot. Further wickets fell and it was only really Adam Wirth (37) that looked comfortable.
The threat of rain was never fair away and all radars suggested that it was never likely the afternoon wouldn’t be disrupted. With the score at 91-8, the heavens opened. Players off, covers on. Egg sandwiches, chocolate bars and multiple cups of tea were consumed before attention turned to alternative ways to pass the time.
Multiple different weather radars offered differing opinions on the forecast. BBC Weather said it was passing, the Met Office suggested we were bang in the middle. When the rain did stop after an hour and a half, Cropredy came out to have a game of football, maybe to show the outfield was drying up, but this soon turned into a standing kickabout. Meanwhile the BCC Ton Up Club were in the bar having a training session, and everyone in the vicinity of the club was made aware when a 180 was hit.
After 3 inspections, the umpires finally made the call to abandon the game at 5.45pm It seemed the obvious decision, particularly when the heavens then opened again as the home players were putting away the boundary rope and tidying away side screens.
Fingers crossed for better weather next week.
